My Campus

What Capilano means to me:

Coming here straight from High school, I didn’t know what to expect. I was in a new environment, didn’t know anybody, the new grueling morning commute and fight for parking was insane (still is), and the studies were far more demanding than anything I’d experienced. But in the midst of all of these factors, I was fascinated. I was first exploring the campus; enjoying my breaks in the garden by Bosa and picking through free books on Fir’s 4th floor, then attending workshop after workshop, from learning how to create my own resume to managing my money. Of course, increasing study difficulty has taken a large chunk out of my exploring and workshopping, but I always make sure there is time for ChatLive, aka free pizza day; the discussions we have on such a variety of topics has become the highlight of my week. I feel privileged when a teacher takes the time to learn my name, and that’s quite common here at Cap. To me, Capilano is a place of opportunity and a catalyst for finding and building one’s self. Capilano has a long way to grow but I know that it has seeded itself on a solid, committed platform.

I love this chair; it’s perfect for naps… Now I just need to find some time for one!*

About the photographer: My name is Cody Pallin and this is my second year here at Capilano University. I am part of the Engineering Transition Program and I love the smaller classroom sizes; it’s truly a luxury over large lecture halls at other universities (unless you’re tired). While studying, I want to explore the amazing opportunities offered to us here on campus, and in doing so, explore my own creative potential to the fullest. This is why I joined the PhotoVoice project. In my spare time I love to go on walks in the surrounding forests with my girlfriend and work in the garden we started last spring (Amazingly the tomato plants are still alive and we have six tiny pumpkins!). -Oct. 16, 2017
